Abstract

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College - Servicing the Plastics Industry through Education and Research

In 1986 Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, was approached by industry leaders to develop a plastics program that would help the industry in Pennsylvania. The resultant collaborative effort resulted in a bachelor’s Plastics Engineering Technology program with a clear focus on addressing the evolving needs of today. The initiative grew rapidly and resulted in not only a world class accredited degree program but also the Plastics Training Academy and multiple industry service centers. These industry focused centers include the Plastics Technical Center and the Plastics Computer Aided Engineering Center. Today the plastics programs at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College services hundreds of companies with various needs ranging from training, research, design, and project management. This presentation will provide an overview of what services are offered and how companies in Pennsylvania can benefit.
