In 2005, Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor & Industry and its Workforce Investment Boards received a multi-year grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to improve the competitiveness of the Commonwealth’s plastics industry. This grant supports the statewide Pennsylvania Plastics Initiative, providing funding to link existing and emerging regional initiatives into a broader statewide network. This grant will support every facet of the plastics industry’s advancement, especially workforce development and technology transfer.
Network
The network is designed to use the statewide workforce
investment system to connect established or emerging local industry partnerships with statewide economic, workforce, and educational resources, as well as align and integrate the aggregate resources of the statewide educational institutions.
Partners
Partners in this effort include the Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board (WIB), Penn State University, Pennsylvania College of Technology, a consortium of local WIBs, and the statewide system of Industrial Resource Centers (IRCs), and Ben Franklin Technology Partners.
Initiative
"This initiative, and partnerships it has created, are designed to serve as a statewide template for the integration of workforce, economic development and education to support other key competitive industry clusters in the commonwealth," said Jack Gido, director of Penn State's Office of Economic and Workforce Development.
